Notes:
- The Western Grebe above was witnessed on Lake Thoreau for the last two weeks of May '98.
A bird watcher visiting the lake declared it to be only the 13th state (VA) sighting.
I even got a letter from the Virginia Society of Ornithology!
- Other medium- to large-sized birds on the lake: Ruddy Duck, Common Loon,
Double-Crested Cormorant, Mute Swan, American Coot, Ring-Billed Gull,
Great Blue Heron, Hooded Merganser, Bufflehead, Ring-Necked Duck
- The sailboat at right is a remote controlled, Kyosho Seawind 1-meter racing yatch which stands
6 feet high. You can usually find the author sailing it on Lake
Thoreau during windy weekend days. (image courtesy of Kyosho)
- Below is the author's latest addition, the 2.5' long Kyosho Streamliner (image
